Michael Hawkins - On Your Side
Local man Michael Hawkins has won selection by the Lib Dems to contest the by-election on Bracknell Forest Borough Council brought about by the sad and untimely death of Terry Mills.
Michael has already outlined the challenges he feels the area is facing and where he wants to help local people:
"Despite all the changes in the last 30 years Binfield and Warfield remain great places to live, work and play. However over-development and a lack of facilities are a real threat to our village environment and we need to ensure that our children can afford to live in the villages where they were born. Our local schools are very good and I want to ensure they stay that way - however we need to balance future growth against the fact that our local primary school can't physically expand to accommodate new growth in pupils.
Any development at Amen corner must include re-opening the old railway station. And finally with Binfield and Warfield moving parliamentary constituency at the next General Election, we need a strong voice to ensure we don't become marginalised between Bracknell and Windsor!"
About Michael:
Michael has lived in Binfield for over 19 years and has been Choirmaster and Organist at All Saints and St Marks Churches for 33 years. He took early retirement from senior management at British Airways a few years ago. He is married with three grown up children who all attended local schools. Michael is a member of the Binfield Village Protection Society and is currently training for the London Marathon. Michael is also a school governor.
