It's Time for a real Change in Britain!
Above Ray Earwicker Meets Nick Clegg I became your Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Bracknell just over a year ago having served on Bracknell Forest Council for four years and on Sandhurst Town Council for a number of years, including the period 1997-99, when I was Town Mayor. During this time I gained a valuable insight into what the constituency has to offer its residents and where improvements can still be made. We undoubtedly have the enormous benefit of living in a relatively affluent and pleasant area but there are many whose lives are being blighted by the shortage of affordable housing, inadequate care of the elderly and those with special needs and poor community services. Public dissatisfaction with the service provided by the police is commonplace and the quality of education provided by local schools is a real source of concern to some parents. At national level the Labour Government has continued to spend vast sums of taxpayers' money on ineffective and bureaucratic programmes and schemes that have failed to deliver the expected results. Billions have gone into public services and education, in particular, without achieving the desired improvements in performance or standards. The Liberal Democrats would cut out waste in public expenditure by at least £20bn to provide much more direct support to people to help them cope with the problems being created by the recession. We would make the tax system fairer and income tax would be reduced by 4p in the £ in favour of higher taxes on pollution and capital gains. Each of these changes would be tax neutral. Council tax would also be abolished in favour of a local tax based on the ability to pay. For too long we have had to live with the 'tax and spend' policies of this Labour government and the dead hand of toryism locally. Liberal Democrats are committed to cutting taxes for ordinary families and those who need it most but it is no use wishing things were different. It can only happen if we 'MAKE IT HAPPEN'. Together we can make the change for a better Britain! Ray Earwicker Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Bracknell On behalf of Bracknell Liberal DemocratsThank you and welcome to our web site. I have been a Liberal Democrat for as long as I have lived in the borough - some twenty years. I am married to Jill, a teacher, and recently took early retirement from the communications industry. We have two grown up children both educated at local schools and I had the privilege of serving the residents of Crowthorne as their borough councillor 1993-97. I trust you find our web pages of interest and you enjoy learning more of our LibDem ethics, ideals and objectives as we seek to build a fair, free and open society with equal opportunity for all. In Bracknell we know that many residents identify with us in terms of our green policies, how local taxes are raised, our views on how we should face the demands for even more housing and the planning decisions which in many instances have failed to take into consideration the views of local people. If you agree to our aim of offering the real local alternative to the other two parties' politics then come and join us.
Best wishes, Steve Pope Elected Chair of, Bracknell Constituency Liberal Democrats
