Crowthorne Has Its Say

2.19.26pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 5th Apr 2005

Residents in Crowthorne responded enthusiastically to a Lib Dem survey on local issues - many points have been raised that the Lib Dems will use to offer an inclusive vision for Crowthorne and inform the campaign for a better deal for Crowthorne.

The Top 5 issues arising from the survey were:

1. Anger at the developments in the High Street and lack of consultation by the council.

2. Criticism of the impact of in-fill housing developments especially on parking as well as the inconsiderate design of the new properties on the surrounding environment.

3. Totally inadequate bus services to and from Crowthorne.

4. Lack of facilities for young and old but especially for the young.

5. No services on the Broadmoor estate.

90% of households said they were not consulted on High Street developments and over 80% wanted more facilities for young and old people (an overwhelming 88% wanted more for young people).

Lee Glendon, Lib Dem Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, who initiated the survey said:

"Crowthorne is earning itself an excellent reputation for active citizenship. Over 10% of households responded to our survey with detailed answers - an extremely high level response rate. It's clear that the issues being raised require action at national, borough and local level - a commitment the Lib Dem team will make."

Cllr Ray Earwicker said:

"We're delighted at the response and it is clear that people like to be asked for their views - something local Conservatives have obviously overlooked in the past. We want to offer a real alternative to Crowthorne residents - one that starts with the views of residents".
