Johnstone Court Fight Goes On!

11.28.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 10th Jun 2005

Cllr Ray Earwicker Signs Up Support in Bracknell Town Centre

Over 500 signatures were collected for the petition to re-open the Johnstone Court day care centre which was presented to Bracknell Forest Borough Council at its meeting on 8 June by David Maxwell, the Chair of Bracknell Liberal Democrats.

Despite repeated attempts to obtain a formal response from the Council, none was ever received. When pressed by Ray Earwicker, the Council's only Lib-Dem councillor, at the next Council meeting to provide at least some precise information about current rates of adult day care service usage, the Tory Executive Member for Social Services could not do so !!

Cllr Earwicker intends to follow up the campaign by visiting each of the Council's remaining day care centres in the period up to the New Year. A programme of fortnightly visits has been arranged in conjunction with the newly-appointed Head of Adult Services who will hopefully prove more accommodating.

Cllr Earwicker said 'it was quite clear that the sole purpose in closing down Johnstone Court was to save money. The elderly deserved better than this and I will continue to campaign for better services for those that needed them.'
