Last week LibDem Borough Councillor Mike Forster was a co-signee on a letter to Jim McMahon OBE MP, Minister of State (Housing, Communities and Local Government. The letter set out that the scale of the impact the proposals would have on the council’s future financial sustainability, and ability to deliver services, if they are implemented as the government proposes.

Sent by Leader of the Council, Cllr Mary Temperton (Labour) it received cross party support, being co-signed by:

  • Cllr Mike Forster, Leader of the Liberal Democrats at Bracknell Forest
  • Cllrs Sheila Collings and Adrian Haffegee, Joint leaders of the Green Party, Bracknell Forest
  • Cllr Gareth Barnard, Leader of the Conservative Group, Bracknell Forest

The letter urges the Minister to rethink the scale and pace of the planned funding redistribution, to protect the core spending power of councils with social care and education responsibilities, being critical. The letter further stresses, that without the minimum uplift in funding, Bracknell Forest will simply not be able to continue the statutory services residents rely on.
